The Multidisciplinary Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) accurately diagnoses emotional, behavioral, addictive and developmental disorders in adults. Our highly reliable screening program relies on evidence-based methodology provided by board-certified psychiatrists, addiction medicine specialists and clinicians with specialized training in behavioral health. By looking at the full picture, we provide the answers that individuals and referring entities need.
"Psychiatric disorders including addictive disease are complicated and poorly understood."
- Dr. AngresAddictive and psychiatric disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, stress-related disorders and eating disorders often co-occur. Symptoms can overlap or mimic one another, creating a complex clinical picture. Other medical conditions – ranging from endocrine to neurological problems – may also impact behavior or be at the root of psychiatric symptoms. MCAP looks at all factors contributing to physical health and psychological well-being.
Addictive Disorders
Many people's drug problem started with a well-meaning prescription painkiller for an injury or pain condition. Another common issue we encounter is for professionals with stressful, high responsibility jobs to turn to alcohol and drugs to relieve stress. Some individuals are also dealing with behavioral addictions, such as gambling, pornography and hypersexual disorder which lead them to compulsively engage in behavior despite the negative impact on their life and those they love. Our team is experienced in assessing all types of behavioral addictions.
Psychiatric Disorders
Our board-certified psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner have clinical expertise in mood disorders, fear disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, ADHD, panic disorder and stress disorders. Many people with psychiatric disorders also become addicted to alcohol or drugs, which they started using as a way to cope.
Cognitive Disorders
Cognitive disorders affect learning, memory and perception. Cognitive disorders may be caused by substance abuse, neurological conditions or other chronic conditions. MCAP incorporates neurocognitive and psychological testing to determine if there is cognitive impairment, the level of impairment and the cause. Imaging studies and consultations with additional specialists if needed.
Medical Conditions
There are many medical conditions that can impact thought processes and behavior. MCAP has an internal medicine physician on staff who conducts physical exams. When complex issues are uncovered, we also arrange consultations with a full range of specialists at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine when needed.
