At MCAP of Chicago, we believe individuals deserve a deep and thorough understanding of all of the factors influencing their health and well-being. The Multidisciplinary Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) is a tool that enables individuals to identify the issues that are causing mental or physical distress, uncover the root causes and chart a path toward recovery.
2.6 million people with addictions have a dependence on both alcohol and illicit drugs.
It takes courage to admit you have a problem with your physical or mental well-being. This is true whether you're struggling with drugs and alcohol, or experiencing a psychiatric illness or other condition that's impacting how you behave or think. We have profound respect for every individual who takes that step and is willing to come to us to better understand him or herself, and to seek answers. Individuals should expect to be treated with respect and compassion, and to have the undivided attention of every member of our team they meet with. Our team of board-certified physicians, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and therapists is dedicated to helping people discover what they need to know to move toward healing.
Our experienced assessment team includes experts with board certifications or specialized training in psychiatry, addiction medicine, internal medicine, trauma recovery, advanced practice and mental health nursing, family therapy and holistic approaches to treatment. Together, we have the expertise to assess and accurately diagnose even the most complicated conditions. When testing and evaluation indicates additional specialties are needed, we arrange for consultations with specialists at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Substance use disorders
Alcohol and drug use can compromise an individual's thought processes and health. We are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of addictive disorders.
Gambling, pornography and sex addiction
Known as behavioral addictions, gambling, pornography and hypersexual disorder lead individuals to compulsively engage in behavior despite the negative impact on their relationships, careers, finances and health. The MCAP team is experienced in assessing all types of behavioral addictions.
Chronic pain
The National Institutes of Health estimates 25 million American adults suffer from chronic pain. Pain can cause sleep disruption, depression and lead to opioid misuse. MCAP evaluates chronic pain and its biomedical and psychosocial contributors
Cognitive impairment
Cognitive disorders affect learning, memory and perception. Many conditions, including depression, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, can cause these cognitive or behavioral symptoms. The MCAP team evaluates all potential underlying causes of cognitive impairment and the level of cognitive impairment to determine if an individual can perform their job with reasonable skill and safety.
Trauma, Anxiety and Depression
Mood disorders, anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are very common and increase an individual's vulnerability to substance use. MCAP can help individuals better understand if they have any of these conditions, and how those conditions are impacting behavior and possible substance use.
Eating disorders
Many people with eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia have co-occurring depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders or substance use disorders. MCAP accurately diagnoses all of the conditions impacting an individual's health.
Personality disorders
Determining if erratic or disruptive behavior is the result of a personality disorder is information employers need to know, and information individuals need to move forward in getting help.
Physical illness
Physical and psychological health are deeply linked. Substance abuse can also be a risk factor for developing both physical and psychological illnesses. MCAP looks at the whole person to determine how one condition may be impacting another.
